Graduated from Brandeis University cum laude and from Boston University School of Law. He served as an Assistant Illinois Appellate Defender and as an Assistant Cook County Public Defender. He is a member of the Chicago Council of Lawyers and the Decalogue Society.

He has been in private practice since 1985, concentrating in business, commercial, real estate and probate litigation; real estate transactions; estate planning and probate; and representation of corporations, partnerships and medical and health care professionals.
